Selfless Exceptionalism

It is not uncommon for us to invest $100 on a nice meal, tickets to a sporting event, or a play or concert, a nice bottle of wine, or green fees at a decent course only to have those experiences dissipate like a morning fog. My dear friend and mentor, the late Zig Ziglar, told me that the two things that will change us in the next five years will be the people we meet and the books we read. This is my first $100 book. It represents my life’s work. I contemplated deeply, prayed fervently, and counseled many before choosing this method of distribution. This is a “limited, author-signed, collector’s edition gift book” that comes with an easel, as it is part art and part literature. It also has a unique sealed chapter for the brave that holds the key to fearless performance... fearless life.

I have spent nearly four decades in locker rooms, behind the bench, inside the ropes, or in the boardroom observing and teaching these principles. They are a treasure to me and soon I hope for you. This is the culmination of my life’s experiences working with champions. It has been a priceless view to “greatness,” a vantage point few if any have ever experienced. While the price of the book may limit the number of readers, the impact on those who make the investment will be priceless. In the words of Zig, my prayer is that this is one of those books that changes your life and the lives of those around you as well as those to whom it is given.

I define greatness as “selfless exceptionalism.” Greatness is reserved for those with a drive for excellence, a servant’s heart, and humility. Thus, the small g in the book’s small title. I’ve noticed that most book titles seem to scream for attention. Not this one. Its simplicity and size speak to the message inside. Greatness is expressed most authentically and powerfully as selfless exceptionalism during the defining moments of both life’s greatest performance achievements and life’s greatest challenges that include uncertainties, adversities, unrest, disasters, setbacks, defeats, chaos, political upheaval, and social disunity among other things. Selfless exceptionalism during the tough times become the foundation of thriving versus surviving.
