MOMENT
A moment. It’s a measure of time but infinitely smaller than a second—smaller than a nanosecond. A moment is to time as an atom is to an element. And powerful… like the power that comes from splitting an atom. And what is amazing, a moment in time can change everything. It did for me.
Last week I once again remembered the moment… the moment in my life when it all changed…
My wife and I saw the new movie “Jesus Revolution” last Friday with some friends. It moved me deeply. I became a believer during that movement. I was living in Texas in the early 70’s when the Jesus revolution was sweeping across the country. I had been in church most of my early life and knew about Jesus and all the great Biblical stories. I was always intrigued and prayed and believed. However, my life was out of control. I was still driving the bus called my life. Then an evangelist showed up at the Rodeo Arena in Waco in 1972. Thousands came that night. He asked the most intriguing question I have ever heard, “Have you surrendered your life and asked Jesus to be Lord of your life.” The answer was “no,” I was still in control. He then said, “The Bibles says that if we confess with our lips and believe in our heart that Jesus is Lord we shall be saved.” That was the missing part. That night there was an invitation for Him to become Lord of my life. I surrendered with my lips and heart and lightning struck. In one moment, one flash, in an instant, Jesus entered my heart and everything changed. I went from knowing about Him, to inviting Him to take over. What I learned in that magnificent moment is that the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised does not force His way in. He waits for the moment that you invite Him in—surrender to His Lordship. And oh what a moment that was for me. Literally everything changed—my desires, my dreams, my calling, my emotions, my heart. His wisdom entered—my feeble intellectual and emotional decision-making was replaced. It literally all changed in a moment.
Watching that movie reminded me once again of the moment it all changed. Have you had that moment? He stands at the door and knocks… He is knocking right now.
“Behold, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice and you open the door within, I will come in to you and feast with you, and you will feast with me.” - Revelation 3:20, TPT
“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved… anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced… Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” - Romans 10:9-13, NLT
