Scottie's Voice

“After my win people began to notice me and wanted what I had. I had a new platform and the chance to share deeper parts of my story… the rest of the story. When my story struck a chord with those listening, fulfillment went deep for me.”

- Golf’s Sacred Journey: The Sequel, p. 22

Commentary:

We witnessed something special last Sunday at the Masters. Scottie Sheffler won under the most intense pressure that the PGA Tour has to offer. That win gave Scottie a voice. In the interview, he shared the backstory. He told the world of the internal battle that he experienced before teeing off. He wasn’t sure he was ready. His wife reminded him of his true identity and that she and Jesus would love him the same no matter if he won or shot ten over. She also encouraged him that he was ready. They prayed for peace. Scottie then went out and told the media he had peace and that peace was the key to victory.

Not many know this part of the story. Two days later, in Texas, when we all expected Scottie to be resting or hiding out, he instead was giving a clinic and sharing his testimony to a group of supporters for College Golf Fellowship, the ministry that meant so much to him during his developmental years. And the fulfillment of that time with this group meant the world to him, and it changed the lives of several in attendance. And that was the highlight of his week. Think about that… changing lives for eternity or winning a perishable trophy.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."
- Matthew 6:19-20 (NIV)
