Let Go

“Do you see the progression? First, you must see; second, you feel; third, you trust. Trust is the epitome of performance. It is the freedom to “let go.” We perform best when we are free. Trust, you see, is earned. It is earned by feel, and feel is earned by seeing. Therefore, art is the catalyst to a great performance.”

- Seven Days in Utopia, p. 65

Commentary:

I remember when an unsuspecting mentor entered my life. Shortly into our relationship, he said that every performance (and experience) in life starts with a blank canvas. What we choose to put on that canvas in our mind's eye will determine the outcome. I was 14 at the time.  I had no idea at that time that 12 years later I would receive a doctorate in Sport Psychology. I can say with conviction that the entire degree hinged on what my mentor taught that day when I was 14. The positive pictures we paint in our mind's eye, turn to feel, and that feel turns to trust. And when we trust, we let go. And when we let go, watch out… something great is about to happen.

"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.…"
- Isaiah 26:3
