Freedom From The Performance Trap

“It has been quite a ride to have a front-row seat with my clients who have included NBA Champions, Olympians, Collegiate Champions, PGA Tour winners, MLB World Champions, and Fortune 500 corporations and leaders. In the world in which I have lived and consulted, metaphorically “making the putt” is everything—the win. It is the reason that competitors in sport, business, and life get up in the morning. It has been a passion of mine to prepare potential champions for the “shot of their lives.” I have seen those with incredible talent wilt in the face of defining moments, not because they didn’t have talent, but because they didn’t have the mental skills necessary to get the talent out when it meant the most.
And if the putt in question (a business, sport, or life-defining moment) is for victory, the outcome projects much upon the performer from our culture. A victory hoists the champion upon a pedestal; a defeat ends with the label of a “choke.” The weight of either outcome can be suffocating because it means too much. It has become a performance trap.
Ultimately the pathway to freedom from the performance trap in sport, business, and life, didn’t come from my training in Sport Psychology. It came from a very different source. Early in life, I met someone who transformed my life. His name is Jesus. In the pages of this book, you will discover the journey to how the simple question “Did he make the putt?” and its subsequent answer has become part of God’s profound rescue mission...”
